Santa Pola is a municipality located on the Costa Blanca, in the province of Alicante (Valencian Community) in the Baix Vinalopó region, Spain. A pretty tourist town of 31,760 inhabitants and a fishing port.
The main attractions of Santa Pola are its historical sites, its port and its 13 kilometers of varied beaches with the Blue Flag, the highest distinction of the European Union.
Historic sites
Nearby you can visit the ruins of "Portus Illicitanus", an Iberian village of the fourth century, where many Iberian and Greek ceramics were discovered. Archaeological excavations have uncovered a Roman settlement where you can visit a fish salting trade, the ancient commercial area of the city, several warehouses, apartments and a luxurious Roman villa covered with mosaics, the " Casa Romana del Palmeral ".
Beaches
To the East, an alternation of small coves and beaches of fine sand and crystal clear waters. To the west, large shallow beaches, ideal for children. To the south, towards Guardamar del Segura, a thin strip of sand shelters the pristine beaches of El Pinet and La Gola, only accessible on foot. Urban beaches such as Playa Tamarit, Lisa Plage, Grand Beach, Playa Levante, Calas Santiago Bernabeu and Playa Varadero, are of fine sand and offer all services: first aid, disabled access, showers, toilets etc., and comfort structures: bars, sun loungers, rental of umbrellas, boats, windsurfing, pedal boats, etc. A beach is reserved for naturists, Playa Tamarit.
Facing the coast you can admire the island of Tabarca, just eight kilometers away.
With a Mediterranean-type climate, Santa Pola has an ideal temperature, with average values of 25 ° C in August, 12 ºC in January and an average annual temperature of 18 ºC. Most of the year, the weather in Santa Pola is spring and makes this city a suitable place for leisure throughout the year.
