Environment
Matola
The neighborhood of Matola is located to the west in the municipality of Elche, bordering the neighborhoods of La Penya de les Àguiles, El Pla de Sant Josep, Algoda and the municipality of Crevillent.
It has an area of 9.2 km²2 and a population of 1,823 inhabitants, in 2018. Its density is therefore 198.2 inhabitants/Km 2.
It shares an urban center with Algoda, although its population lives largely in a dispersed manner.
Its land is fertile and productive, finding all kinds of shrub crops and orchards. In the past, Matola was known as a wine producer that today is reduced to a renowned winery where wines are still made by hand.

In the northern part, the Mediterranean motorway and the N-340 between Murcia and Alicante intersect. Very close to this road communication node is the high-speed train station between Madrid and Murcia, which is 15 minutes from the center of Elche.
The patron saint festivities of the Virgen del Carmen are celebrated in July.
